Can we please have an honest conversation about how HARD it is to run your own business? Here’s the deal :: my husband (whom I love dearly) works long hours, has a terrible commute, and answers to a boss. I don’t have a boss (woot woot), I have flexible hours, and I have the luxury of working in my pjs if it so pleases me. The catch is, I am responsible for all household STUFF during the day. Because I have the more flexible job, it’s up to me to tidy the house, meet with the cable guy, keep our child alive between 6am and 7pm, and, you know, manage a business. Some days are awesome, and others are ROUGH. Today is a lovely mixture of both. On the one hand, the kiddo is home sick. Bye-bye, work appointments! You are cancelled. Note to self :: move today’s To Do List to Friday because you know you’re not getting it all done tomorrow. On the other hand, I have TWO features to share with you today! The first is a Q&A I did with @trippfilms regarding her recent branding experience, and the second is an interview with @voyagehouston! Since I couldn’t link to both here, I put them on the blog (link in profile). Double-yay! So...if you’re still with me...how do we do it all? CAN we do it all? Is it worth it? I’m so excited to finally share this letterpress printed, dip-dyed business card we designed for @trippfilms! Nikki is a filmmaker who wanted to rebrand her business so that it felt relaxed, organic, clean, personal, and handcrafted. This card was not only printed with a vintage press on super thick, 100% cotton paper, but EACH and every one was dipped multiple times into a subtle green dye to create an abstract landscape. (You seriously can’t get more handcrafted than that.) The result is both personal and professional and I am so thrilled with them! Read all about her re-launch here: @trippfilms. Being a designer is a blessing and a curse when it comes to gift-giving. On the one hand, the sky is the limit because I could have almost anything made; BUT, this usually means I unnecessarily complicate things and send gifts late. 😣 Luckily, Em’s teacher gift was a pretty quick project. After scanning my lettering, I sent the file to Jami of @kolorize, and voilà! A beautiful sign made of quarter-inch walnut. I love how it turned out! .
